The Steubenville Parks and Recreation Department is responsible for the upkeep of 13 parks, the Belleview Municipal Pool and the MLK Recreation Center. The Department employs a full time Director of Parks, two full time maintenance staff,  4 part-time permanent Recreation Aides and seasonal employees for the Belleview Community Pool and Summer Food Program. The Department offers a variety of recreational activities and programs free to the community. Department staff encourages the citizens of Steubenville and the surrounding areas to take advantage of all the opportunities it provides. The benefits are endless and we can prove it!

Mary Beth Sills was appointed to the position of City Parks and Recreation Director in May 2014. She is an Eastern Ohio native, raised west of the Ohio Valley in Guernsey County.  Mary Beth obtained her Bachelors of Biological Sciences from the Bowling Green State University.  Mary Beth started her professional career as a seasonal naturalist for the Licking Park District.  In January of 2001 she became the district’s Special Projects Coordinator, responsible for implementing and planning several special events, educational programs and site manager for a nature center until February of 2011.  Following her departure from the Licking Park District Mary Beth became the Administrative Assistant for the City of Reynoldsburg Parks and Recreation Department where she was responsible for fiscal management, educational programming and various projects in the City.  In both her position with the Park District and in Reynoldsburg Mary Beth has written over $900,000 to date in grants for various land acquisitions, educational programming materials and various projects.  Mary Beth is a section leader for the Ohio Parks and Recreation Association, Regional Reporter for the National Association for Interpretation and has earned various educational programming certifications from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Wildlife, World Wildlife Fund and the EPA.  She is a Certified Interpretive Guide for the National Association for Interpretation.
